I’m very pleased & excited to announce a November 14th release date for my new album ‘Orphic’ via Deathless Records.  The first single/video from the album “A Ghost Walked Through Me” is out now.

January is a brutal, deceptive month for islanders. With the gentle threat of those idealistic new year’s resolutions hanging over you like an unwanted monkey on your back, the taxman rattling his hungry coffers & the British rain pummeling down relentlessly, it’s more than understanding why people detest it so much. This year, I decided to not have any resolutions other than hibernate in my studio, the Wolf Cabin. After about four weeks of scribbling, jumping from piano to guitar to whatever and babbling like a madman into the recording app on my phone, I emerged into the more forgiving month of February 2025 with this record, Orphic. I decided to focus mainly on guitar this time & let the piano play on the back foot, hell I’m even playing cigar box side 😱!!

Good afternoon, I’m very excited to announce I’m hitting the road again in early September, for a little solo jaunt around the UK, including my first ever show on the Isle of Man! MINDHORN! MY AUTUMN DONE COME

Summer is dwindling and the skies are forming mottled clusters; a feral, vicious squirrel is teetering on a branch of our oak, barking and squeaking, perhaps the last dying echoes of a desperate mating call or just at war with it’s own mind. I can relate.

My preparations for the European / UK tour are currently underway, navigating the usual treacherous waters of trying to stay under budget. Yep sadly it’s not as easy as it was touring Europe…can you work out why? Answers on a postcard to hell. Wow I’m in a sardonic mood this morning. Hello!! Still It’s going to be a fantastic tour, I’m so glad so many of the excellent artists I’ve worked with and who I count as good friends, are joining me on the road.

I have started a shop on Etsy, selling my ‘song’ paintings, if you haven’t had a chance, please check them out, they come with a typewritten lyric sheet and a new 4-track recording; it’s an artistic and financial enterprise that I’m quite enjoying, I also take commissions so send me a message and let me know.

This month I’m mainly in the Wolf Cabin, recording and producing other artist’s music. I also have a show next week at Hollands Farm, Great Milton, Oxfordshire in a little Tipi tent in the woods, with my dear pal Gerry ‘THE BEAR’ Atkins on trumpet – should be a great night, if you live in the area come one down, here’s a link to tickets: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/montgomeryconsulting/1345362 – then in October I head over to Cardiff to perform as a session player for a David Crosby tribute which should be quite fun – specifically his ‘If I Could Only Remember My Name’ solo album, with Mike Scott & The Staves amongst others… after that I’ll be back in Zurich performing with Annakin at a special themed event then back home and then it’s almost time for Christmas…holy moly!

Howdy all, I hope this finds you in rude health. It’s been an interesting couple of months since I last blogged on here. At the start of March I found myself recording and producing in the Wolf Cabin on quite a regular basis, with various brilliant and unique misfits and talents – this seems to have continued sporadically…leading up to the release of ‘El Magnifico’, I drove up to Newcastle, staying with my dear friend Kathryn Williams & then onto Edinburgh and Glasgow for various commitments, with one day off, where I nearly got blown away by a Scottish gale on Arthur’s Seat. I lived to tell the tale, nursing my pint of Guinness in the Sheep Heid, Edinburgh’s oldest pub, looking like a sad, drowned ghost. After returning home, post-release of the record, I proceeded to tour the UK of it’s finest record stores and perform in my nudie suit, with a drum machine and a piano, even my four track cassette recorder towards the final shows. I can’t thank everyone enough for their kind words about the album, it really feels like it has been a resounding success and that makes it so worthwhile. It felt very exhilarating playing the songs with a full band at the Rambling Roots festival, even though I forgot my pedalboard. Fuck it! Who needs pedals (me, I have a slight addiction to be honest). The week after I spent two days in Abbey Road writing with one of my oldest collaborators, Sophie Ellis-Bextor & none other than the legendary Nile Rodgers – I was quite nervous to begin with but he’s a very warm and welcoming character, by the end..it was quite an experience I won’t forget in a hurry. He has a planet named after him called….er..Nile Rodgers. Anyway, I have just come back from Sweden having spent a week with Peter Jöback, who’s album just came out ( Kathryn W & I wrote it with Peter and I produced it) – that was a gas, it’s so nice to see Peter so happy in his natural element, what a guy. I also managed to slip in some solo shows which were splendid, with specials guests ahoy – even made it to Peter Moren’s little pub gig in Stockholm and sung Sitting on the Dock of the Bay with him and his stellar band. Phew! Then….it was the Baftas. Yes I was nominated for a Bafta Craft Award for Otto Baxter: Not A F**king Horror Story. Gita looked stunning & I attempted to play it cool on the red carpet and we quaffed quite a few cocktails, gotta milk it right? Sadly I did not snag the award but Bruce & Peter, the directors won so that was pretty righteous in the end. Right now I’m gearing up for more production in the ole’ cabin, tomorrow it’s Ministry of Desire, featuring Richard Strange & Clifford Slapper, my favourite odd couple! As we come to the end of February, I for one am imbued with a gently cynical hope, as the winter gradually desists. There have been 3 tracks out now from ‘El Magnifico & a fourth video may make the rounds in March before the album is out on the 29th. I have a run of instores starting with ASSAI in Edinburgh on release day, JACARANDA in Liverpool on April 2nd, JUMBO in Leeds on the 3rd, RESIDENT in Brighton on the 4th, TRUCK in Oxford (hometown now!) 5th APril, then the Rambling Roots Revue in High Wycombe on the 6th and finally two instore shows at Banquet on the 8th April. I hope to see some of your lovely faces there! In the meantime, I shall be preparing for these shows with a strict regime of jumping jacks and shadowboxing. See you on the other side! X

And the video for Strange Beauty is now up on VEVO / YOUTUBE – shot on a deserted beach in Cabo de Gata, southern Spain…Steve Gullick & I traipsed through the early dawn and he shot this lovely little vignette on Super 8, with yours truly finding novel ways to exploit an umbrella over the course of 4 and half minutes..!

The first track to be released from my forthcoming album ‘ El Magnifico’, due out next year, is to be premiered tomorrow (22/11/2023) on Lauren Laverne’s show on BBC 6music. Tune in from about 7:30am and it should pop up at some point on your radio! Very excited to get this ball rolling, there’ll be some more announcements about the album in due course.

A little update for you all, it’s been a while, it’s all my fault, nothing’s changed there. It’s been an interesting year, staying afloat post- pandemic has been a challenge to say the least. If I’m not juggling a million projects then I’m not happy! I have recently signed up with the fantastic DNA as a film / TV composer and am really excited about working with them on various projects. This month Story Films OTTO BAXTER: NOT A F**CKING HORROR STORY and it’s accompanying short film PUPPET ASYLUM are being released into the world, they’re both something I’m incredibly proud of and I can’t wait for you to experience the world of Otto, he’s a one off that’s for sure. Channel 4 are soon to be airing a very dark and important feature doc I scored about the Hampstead Hoax of Christchurch school that happened a few years ago, basically how internet trolls and conspiracy theorists hooked their claws into ordinary people’s lives and ruined them, it’s quite something, so watch out for that one. Recently I ventured to southern Spain with the inimitable Steve Gullick to shoot artwork and videos for my next album, ‘El Magnifico’ – we had an incredible 4 days there and I can’t wait for you to witness his genius once again. On the production side, I’ve just recorded & produced a new project for Hannah Rose Platt, the debut album for Jess Tuthill; the new & third Tom Bright album is due to be released very soon & next year the forthcoming album from Peter Jöback will be released, which I produced and co-wrote with Kathryn Williams and Peter. The MVT United by Music solo piano tour in July was a resounding success and I’m hoping I’ll get to do more of this kind of thing because I had a blast.
